Crowd of 18,277 Watches Sporting Lisbon Defeat Guadalajara, 2-1, at the Coliseum

After a 20-hour journey from Portugal, Sporting Lisbon had just enough energy left Sunday afternoon to defeat Guadalajara, 2-1, in an international soccer exhibition match at the Coliseum.

A crowd of 18,277 saw the Portuguese team, which arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday night, take the lead in the 30th minute on a goal by English forward Ralph Meade.

Five minutes later, Guadalajara tied the game when Concepcion Rodriguez scored, but Meade gave Sporting Lisbon the victory with his second goal of the match four minutes into the second half.

Sporting Lisbon, one of Portugal’s top club teams, travels to Mexico to play the Mexican national team on Wednesday night.
