The Los Angeles city clerk predicted a 30%-35% turnout in today’s special election to select a new council member in the City Council’s 1st District. As of noon, 7.1% of the voters in the Northeast-Eastside district had gone to the polls.

City Clerk Elias Martinez, citing good weather and interest in the contest between major candidates Assemblywoman Gloria Molina and school board member Larry Gonzalez, said today’s turnout should be higher than the low 20% turnout typical of special elections.
