The Region : Nevada Fines 2 California Waste Haulers
The Nevada Environmental Protection Division has fined two California firms $20,000 each for illegally treating and spilling hazardous waste. The division said the fines were levied against Industrial Waste Engineer of Lake Elsinore and U.S. Services Inc. of Corona. The firms were hauling waste metal sludge from Hill Air Force Base in Utah for burial at the disposal grounds near Beatty. The loads were turned away because of the presence of liquid in the sludge. The Beatty facility is not permitted to accept waste containing free liquids. The truckers then bought several bags of cement that were dumped in the sludge in an attempt to solidify the standing water.
