Orange County College Basketball : SCC Can’t Take Advantage of Late Chances
Mike Long was 9 of 10 from the field and had a career-high 13 rebounds to lead Azusa Pacific to a 64-61 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Southern California Tuesday at Azusa.
The Vanguards had two chances to win in the final 37 seconds. Todd Dixon stole the ball from Mike Long with 37 seconds left and Southern California trailing, 62-61. After a timeout, Dixon missed a five-foot shot with five seconds left. Long got the rebound, was fouled and made both shots for the Cougars (3-3, 11-15).
Jeff Stephens missed a three-point shot at the buzzer for the Vanguards (3-3, 15-7).
In nonconference men’s games:
Christ College, Irvine 86, Coast Baptist 68--Victor Townes scored 23 points and Paul Wear 18 to lead the Eagles (9-14) at Irvine.
In women’s California Colligate Athletic Assn.:
Chapman 75, Cal State Dominguez 53--Senior forward Valarie Hartsfield scored a game-high 25 points for the Panthers.
Hartsfield scored 15 points in the first half as Chapman built a 36-18 at halftime.
In women’s Golden State Athletic Conference:
Azusa Pacific 72, Southern California 63--Sally Cohenour scored a career-high 26 points for the Cougars (3-2, 10-12). Tina Rey added 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Lisa Terry scored 28 points and Connie Brazell scored 13 points and had 5 assists for the Vanguards (1-4, 8-16.)
