R.H. Estates : Community Center to Open

Share

A city community center will open officially Friday at Peninsula Center in space provided by Sierra Management Services Inc., which operates the mall.

The 2,400-square-foot room--which is being used largely for city-sponsored physical fitness classes--is in Peacock Alley, a collection of shops and restaurants on the Indian Peak Road side of the center. Mayor Hugh Muller will conduct the opening ceremony at 1 p.m.

Anne Giltner, city recreation coordinator, said about 250 people take classes every week and that the center provides a central location for activities that used to be moved frequently because of space problems. Winter classes are meeting there and the recreation program will be expanded in the spring, Giltner said.

The city and Sierra each contributed $5,000 to remodel the room, which formerly was a restaurant.
