Norwalk : Billboard OKd by 3-2 Vote
Installation of a 60-foot billboard that will be 65 feet from homes near the corner of Rosecrans Avenue and Firestone Boulevard has been approved by the Norwalk City Council. The council voted 3-to-2 for Regency Outdoor Advertising to install the billboard, overturning the Planning Commission’s recommendation to deny the request.
The council asked the company to fence the lot where the billboard will be located and to maintain the grounds. City officials complained that the area had been used as a dumping ground for old sofas and other refuse.
“It certainly could use cleanup, but not with litter of signs,” said Councilwoman Grace Napolitano, who with Councilwoman Margaret (Peg) Nelson, voted against the proposal. They said glare from the sign would affect nearby residents.
But Mayor Robert White countered that “nobody out there would be directly affected by the shadow or glare of the sign.”
