A Chinese court sentenced a Sichuan University graduate to seven years in prison for a speech calling for the overthrow of the Communist Party, the China Legal News reported. The paper said that Liu De, 29, was found guilty of counterrevolutionary activities for vilifying the socialist system and attacking party policies before an audience of college students and teachers in Mianyang, 65 miles northeast of Chengdu in Sichuan province. Last month, three leading intellectuals were expelled from the party in a crackdown on capitalist and Western influences.
