A group of vacationers has decided that there’s just no pleasing all of the people all of the time. Their solution? “Surprise” vacations. The group, which includes such avid travelers as John and Suzy Walker of Chicago, assigns the planning for each sojourn to one member of the group, who leaves the others in suspense. “We started going on trips many years ago,” John Walker said. “It got so a lot of people would say, ‘Oh, I’ve been there, or I don’t play golf.’ ” About 40 people belong to the group, and the trips have taken them to Florida, California, the Ozarks, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana. “We’re told essentially what to pack. . . . They mail an itinerary to our offices so our secretaries know where we are,” said Walker.
