Territorial Chief Quits in French Polynesia

PAPEETE, Tahiti — Gaston Flosse resigned Sunday as head of French Polynesia’s territorial government.
Flosse told a meeting of his Gaullist party Rally of the Populations that his other post, as France’s secretary of state for South Pacific affairs, requires him to be away from the territory too often for him to continue to lead French Polynesia.
