UCLA’s Pineda Wins All-Around Title and Three Events in Gymnastics Meet

Junior Tony Pineda of UCLA finished first in three events and also won the all-around title Sunday in the UCLA/Times Invitational collegiate gymnastics meet at UCLA.

Pineda’s won the pommel horse and parallel bars and tied for the title in the horizontal bar with teammate David St. Pierre.

In winning the all-around title with 57.90 points, Pineda recorded the highest score in the nation this year.

UCLA also won the team title with 282.40 points, the highest score in the nation this year. Illinois was second with 278.50 and Arizona State third with 275.75.

Penn State, with 281.15, was the former team leader. Pineda replaces teammate Curtis Holdsworth as the new national leader in the all-around event.
