At the behest of a federal mediator, the Screen Extras Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers resumed talks in hopes of reaching a new contract. The extras struck last Wednesday protesting wage cuts of 25% to 40%. The guild also set up a picket line in Santa Ana, where Phoenix Productions, a non-union company, is filming “Roses for the Rich,” a four-hour CBS miniseries. Extras spokesman Tom Willett said the union had forced a shutdown of production. But Jerry Abrams, co-chairman of Phoenix, said there had been picketing, “but we’re continuing to work.”
