About 100 police officers arrested 30 people on the French Riviera this week in an operation directed at thieves who pillaged art and antiques valued at $16 million from chateaux and churches throughout France, police sources in Nice told the Associated Press Thursday. The wire service reported that 12 Italians and 18 French citizens were arrested Tuesday and Wednesday. In more than 200 heists, the burglars raided chateaux throughout the country, selecting valuable items pointed out by an art expert working with them, police said.
