GE plans to expand a television plant in Indiana.

General Electric Co. said its plant in Bloomington, Ind., later this month will begin manufacturing color TV sets previously produced by Matsushita Electric Co. in Japan. The company said it will invest about $20 million to modernize the plant’s production capabilities. The renovation project will begin immediately at the 1.8-million-square-foot plant, which currently produces large and medium RCA color table models and consoles. Production of the GE line is expected to begin Feb. 23, with a goal of 500,000 sets by the end of the year. The announcement partly reflected the effect of the declining value of the dollar.
