A Downey man was arrested and accused of impersonating a doctor to bill insurance companies for nearly $100,000 in medical fees, fraud investigators of the California Department of Insurance reported. They said George Manuel Del Junco, 37, a physical therapist for several chiropractors, obtained a driver’s license in the name of a legitimate doctor, then opened a bank account and secured a postal box as well as credit cards under the doctor’s name. He then submitted $98,000 worth of bills to insurance companies for purported medical treatment, said chief investigator Ronald Warthen. Del Junco was booked at the Lakewood sheriff’s station on four counts each of insurance fraud and forgery. He was released on $10,000 bail.
