Rodriguez Takes Lead in PGA Seniors
Chi Chi Rodriguez shot a two-under-par 70 Thursday to take the first-round lead in the $260,000 PGA Seniors Championship.
Rodriguez, a three-time winner in 1986, his first full season on the Senior PGA Tour, was one stroke ahead of former PGA Seniors champions Joe Jimenez and Jack Fleck.
No other players in the 131-player field finished under par on the 6,500-yard Champion course at PGA National.
“The course is set up very hard, but that’s the way it should be,” Rodriguez said. “It takes skill and intelligence to play it and it gives the best players the best opportunity to win.”
Rodriguez shot four birdies, the longest a 25-footer at the 12th hole.
