Long Beach Jail to Keep Adults, Children Apart
The City of Long Beach agreed Friday to stop locking up juveniles in its adult jail as part of a settlement spurred by new state legislation outlawing the practice.
The settlement, signed by Superior Court Judge M. Ross Bigelow, is similar to an earlier agreement on imprisoning juveniles reached with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and resolves one of the last outstanding cases in California over the joint incarceration issue.
