What to Wear at Arts Center

Share

Re “Dressing Up for the Arts Center.” I attended the opening-night presentation of “Singing in the Rain” at the Performing Arts Center and was hardly dressed for the occasion. Myself (in a jogging suit) and a date were out for a walk and, since I hadn’t seen the Center yet, we walked over there. On the spur of the moment we bought tickets, which happened to be fifth row center. You can imagine my dismay when I saw people dressed for a formal affair.

The point of my letter is this: I couldn’t have cared less what people thought (and I did get some rather surprised looks). I was there to enjoy the performance and our money was as good as anybody else’s. It is too bad if our Center is reserved for only those who would have to be dressed to the teeth, as I would not have had a spontaneous, wonderful evening.

Casual clothes should not be precluded. The performance is the raison d’etre --not what the patrons are wearing.
