The mother of an infant kidnaped Feb. 3 from a waiting room at County-USC Medical Center pleaded for the return of the child. Speaking in Spanish and aided by an interpreter, Ampelia Pacheco, 33, asked for her 1-month-old son, Elias Monroy, to be given back. Los Angeles Police also are asking for information from anyone who knows of a woman who may have suddenly acquired a baby, said Detective Robert Rogers. The woman offered to hold the infant while Pacheco went to buy baby formula, Rogers said. When Pacheco returned, the woman and the baby were gone. The woman probably lives locally, Rogers said, and wanted the baby for her own. She is described as Latino, 5 feet to 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds. Elias was described as 18 inches long, weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces, with black hair and a light complexion.
