Chinese Mark New Year
About 15,000 people thronged sidewalks, restaurants and cultural displays in Los Angeles’ Chinatown amid exploding firecrackers, martial arts demonstrations and a colorful carnival marking the Chinese New Year.
This year’s festivities mark the year of the hare, 4685, one of the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. Each year comes under a particular animal symbol in a 12-year cycle.
