House Speaker’s In-Law to Face Charges in Texas

Share

A man identified by authorities as the son-in-law of Speaker Jim Wright of the U.S. House of Representatives agreed last week in Los Angeles Municipal Court to waive extradition to Texas on a drug charge he faces there.

John Thomas Carnes, 33, the husband of Alicia Marie Wright, will be returned to authorities in Tarrant County, Tex., by March 1, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Friday. Carnes was arrested by Forth Worth police in October and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Hawthorne police took Carnes in custody Monday when they were called to a Hawthorne motel where he and his wife were staying after the two had been reported fighting. Officers said they took him into custody when the computer check they ran on him turned up the Texas warrant.
