Discounts for Everyone

After reading Toni Taylor’s “Travel and You” column Jan. 25, I was a bit bemused to see her described as “an authority on the travel industry.” Since her column consisted entirely of editorializing that the federal government should forcibly and artificially drive up the cost of international air travel, I have to conclude that she surely does not come from the consumer side of the house. Similarly, since it is the airlines and the highly productive travel agencies who mutually choose to implement the discount policies Taylor would outlaw, it seems unlikely that she represents either of these areas. If Taylor truly wished to help the traveling public, she might have mentioned the names of some of the agencies which offer discounts to everyone, rather than lobbying for prohibition of the practice.
