When only one Jimmy Cliff album (“Cliff Hanger”) and just two Bob Marley LPs (“Legend” and “Best of”) are listed in the comprehensive Schwann Compact Disc Catalog, you know that CD reggae offerings are limited, so this 15-song, 64-minute sampler--featuring such artists as Burning Spear, Black Uhuru and Big Youth--is at least a small breakthrough. However, there’s only a trace in these tracks of the compelling power and/or celebration contained in such classic compilations as “The Harder They Come” sound track and the many Island Records reggae collections. 1/2
