Former U.S. Rep. Bobbi Fiedler has married her longtime aide, Paul Clarke, in a brief private ceremony attended by family and friends.

The bride and groom smashed a drinking glass afterward and were lifted onto chairs by friends. Both are traditions in Jewish weddings.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Fiedler.

“When it’s time, it’s time,” added Clarke.

The short private ceremony at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City on Sunday was attended by 20 close friends and relatives, including Fiedler’s two children from a previous marriage.

About 150 people attended a reception afterward, among them, Roberta Weintraub, Los Angeles school board member; state Sen. Alan Robbins and other political figures.

It was the second marriage for both Fiedler, 49, and Clarke, 40. The couple have known each for 10 years and announced marriage plans last year.

Fiedler gave up her congressional seat to make an unsuccessful run for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in 1986. She now works as a commentator at KABC-TV Channel 7. Clarke is a political consultant.
