A Malibu man fell to his death while trying to climb a cliff in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, authorities said. The 24-year-old climber, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, fell about 30 feet while attempting to scale a cliff a mile north of Camp 8 in the recreation area near Malibu, Deputy Roxanna Schuckman said. A helicopter took the man to Westlake Community Hospital, where he died later of massive head injuries, Schuckman said.
