Ron Paul, a former Texas congressman now seeking the Libertarian Party nomination for President, said big government will be the major issue in his campaign.

“In 1988, Americans will be faced with Bush or Kemp, Hart or Cuomo, or some other big-government types,” the four-term Republican lawmaker told supporters Monday at a luncheon where he announced his candidacy. “I intend to make sure the people have a choice for freedom.”

Paul, who attended the weekend California Libertarian Party convention in nearby Millbrae, said his campaign would be “grass-roots, hard-hitting (and) well-financed.”
