Duarte : Elected City Clerk Urged
The chairman of the city’s audit review committee, established last fall to review city finances and make recommendations for changes, has proposed that the city clerk be elected. Currently the city manager also serves as city clerk.
Lloyd Hager said that a city clerk appointed by the City Council cannot be independent in reviewing his own and council members’ expense reports.
Hager said that if the council agrees to the change, the position of city clerk would be on the ballot in the April, 1988, election. The council is scheduled to discuss the proposal on Tuesday.
