Another 100 cases of AIDS were reported in Los Angeles County last month, bringing the number of local victims to 2,659, officials said. New cases reported in January dropped slightly from December, when 102 cases were reported, county Director of Health Services Robert Gates said in his monthly update on the AIDS epidemic. The death toll, meanwhile, rose to 1,630, or 61%, Gates said. Los Angeles County has the nation’s third-largest number of victims of acquired immune deficiency syndrome, behind New York and San Francisco.
