Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block and Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl F. Gates endorsed a “Cops for Kids” campaign aimed at keeping children out of street gangs and off drugs and alcohol.
They met Thursday with Olympic gold medalist boxer Paul Gonzalez, the spokesman for the group.
Also present at the conference held at the Hollenbeck Youth Center were actress Lauren Tewes of “Love Boat” and Martin Jacobs, president of the Southern California Chevrolet Dealers Assn., financial sponsors of the campaign.
