More than 300 University of Alabama students protested Friday the banning from campus of a sexually explicit student play, and playwright Walter Alves said he would sue if the university does not reverse its decision within 10 days. The play, “Babylon Motel,” includes a simulated oral sex act between a prostitute and a male customer, performed in front of her child. But Alves said Friday he would sue for “violation of my constitutional rights to freedom of expression” unless the show went on. Richard Peck, dean of arts and sciences, replied: “I did not ask Mr. Alves to change any part of the play. I just do not feel comfortable sponsoring it or providing a forum for it.”
