San/Bar Unit Gets $900,000 Army Contract

The Break-Free division of San/Bar Corp., an Irvine telephone equipment supplier and repairer, said Monday that it has received a $900,000 contract from the U.S. Army for its Bor-Cap brand cleaning system for artillery. Full delivery is expected by June 30.

The Break-Free division also was awarded a yearlong contract to supply the Army with its cleaning lubricant. That contract is valued at $1.3 million.

San/Bar got into the artillery parts cleaning and lubricating field when push-button telephones eliminated the need for a lubricant it had designed for use on rotary dial phones, said Barry Hallamore, chairman and chief executive of San/Bar.

Additionally, San/Bar’s telephone service division in Garland, Tex., has been awarded a three-year extension of a contract with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for repair and refurbishment of coin telephones and components. Southwestern Bell refused to allow the release of the contract’s value, San/Bar said.
