The State : Cable Car Rider Injured

Share

A terrified tourist was pinned and severely bruised when the cable car she was riding passed a double-parked airport van, San Francisco police said. Rebecca Mallinger, 29, Muskego, Wis., was on the cable car’s running board clutching a side grip when it came alongside the van, trapping her between the two vehicles. Mallinger was treated at a nearby hospital and released. “She’s a real lucky woman,” Officer Doug Foss said. He said the woman told him she heard her bones popping and couldn’t breathe. Roger Hetherman said he and other passengers leaped off the cable car and rocked the van to free the woman because the drivers of the two vehicles were too busy arguing about which one of them should back up first. Foss said no traffic citations were issued.
