Bowing to an appeal by Foreign Minister Hans van den Broek, a Dutch television station agreed not to broadcast the spoof of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that got two West German diplomats expelled from Iran last week. The satire used film tricks to make it appear that exultant women were throwing their underwear at the ayatollah’s feet. Van den Broek told the television station VARA that broadcasting the spoof, even as part of a current affairs program on the incident, could endanger Dutch citizens living in Iran.
