Cheviot Hills : Country Club to Hold Opening

Share

Known for more than 60 years as the Westside Racquet Club, the Beverly Hills Country Club, 3084 Motor Ave., will hold a reopening ceremony at 6 p.m. today after undergoing a $10-million rebuilding project.

Knight Development Corp., which bought the club last year, won a legal battle with residents to refurbish the club. The Cheviot Hills Homeowners Assn. brought suit against the firm, contending that the new owners planned an expansion of activities that would add traffic, parking and noise problems in a residential neighborhood. The suit was dismissed last month in Los Angeles Superior Court.

During the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, club members included show business personalities such as Humphrey Bogart, Errol Flynn and Charles Boyer. Today’s membership will be oriented more to business and professional persons, according to a club spokesman.
