Bank Guard Captures Suspect, Gets Ax
Wells Fargo Bank has had a private guard reassigned for violating bank company policy after he chased down a suspected bank robber.
The bank said guard Jesse Massey, 24, “failed to follow procedures designed to protect our customers and employees.”
Massey, 24, was stunned. “I chased a bank robber--and that’s not Wells Fargo policy--so I’m unemployed,” he lamented. “Nobody ever told me not to chase a bank robber. I really don’t believe what’s happening. I thought I was doing something good.”
Police said the man Massey caught was wanted for robbing four banks in San Francisco’s financial district in the last three months.
The guard said he recognized the suspect, who was wearing dark glasses andconcealing one hand, as the man stood in a tellers’s line last Friday. He confronted him and the suspect fled out the door. Massey chased him several blocks, caught him and held him until police arrived.
