Polish Students Call for Academic Freedom
About 20 members of the outlawed Independent Students Union protested Thursday, demanding more academic freedom and the release of three students imprisoned on terrorism charges.
The demonstrators scattered leaflets during their brief march downtown, then dispersed down a side street.
The three imprisoned students were among a group of seven Krakow activists who were arrested after police found a rooftop launching device for tear gas and underground leaflets allegedly intended for disrupting official Polish May Day observances last year.
