Freddy Krueger, the dream-killing anti-star of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” series, is back in town with a vengeance: the latest installment, the third (subtitled “Dream Warriors”) grossed $8.9 million its first weekend, the biggest opening weekend of 1987 so far, according to Exhibitors Relations Co. “Nightmare 3” outgrossed John Hughes’ latest, “Some Kind of Wonderful,” more than 2 to 1 (“Wonderful” did $3.5 million). Rounding out the top five grossing films: “Platoon,” $7.1 million; “Outrageous Fortune,” $4.4 million; “Mannequin,” $4.1 million; and “Hoosiers,” with $3.7 million.
