Former Oakland A’s owner Charles Finley has proposed a merger of the Canadian Football League with teams from the dormant United States Football League, according to two television companies.

Spokesmen for Turner Broadcasting System and Fox Television say Finley has approached them about the proposal. The plan grew out of an idea several owners in the USFL had to merge the remnants of their league with the CFL. The USFL ceased operations after the league was awarded only $3 in damages in an antitrust suit against the NFL last summer.
