The Internal Revenue Service says Ted Turner and his Turner Broadcasting System owe $1.5 million in back taxes. The IRS wants $1.28 million from TBS for 1973 through 1981 and is seeking $250,031 from Turner for 1978 through 1980. Turner is contesting IRS deficiency notices sent last year in a dispute over levies for Turner’s Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, according to papers filed Tuesday in U.S. Tax Court in Washington.
