Rock stars Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead may jam together for a series of summer concerts, according to reports from a San Francisco disc jockey and United Press International. KFOG-FM jock M. Dung, who said he had been “asked by the band to talk about this,” said Wednesday that Dylan and the rock group have been rehearsing in secret in San Rafael for several weeks. Dylan and the Grateful Dead, longtime mutual admirers, have appeared on the same bill numerous times in the past but have not shared the stage. A spokesman for the band said: “We are considering doing dates this summer. As yet there is nothing definite set up. Whether or not such a tour does happen, the Dead will tour on their own, and Bob Dylan will be touring Europe with Tom Petty.” Petty’s management firm said a tour with Dylan is being planned but has not been confirmed.
