‘SDI Makes Moral Sense’
As former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara has (in regard to SDI) publicly observed, the further deployment of any form of weaponry, defensive or offensive, nuclear or non-nuclear, leads only to further weapons development by the nation finding itself at a disadvantage.
Time and again, recession and war have proven themselves to be Siamese twins joined by unemployment and taxes. In a struggle to fulfill an economic agenda, administrations, both Democratic and Republican, have attempted to cajole our nation into the moral acceptance of war as just. The elimination of war is the only just cause from which peace can arise. Further, invocations of Christ’s and Catholicism’s support for defense initiatives by this Administration must not sway Americans from such a cause.
