The Nation : Chicago Vote Fraud Cited

Two reviews of last month’s mayoral primary in Chicago have uncovered “massive” vote fraud and other election irregularities, the Chicago Tribune reported. The reviews, conducted by the Chicago Board of Election and an election watchdog group, found that votes in the Feb. 24 primary were cast by people registered to non-existent addresses and vacant lots, registered more than once and in the names of people who were dead. A routine canvass of voter records by the elections board projected that up to 52,000 people improperly cast ballots. But the citywide fraud and irregularities are not expected to alter the outcome of Mayor Harold Washington’s victory over former Mayor Jane M. Byrne in the Democratic primary, the paper said.
