Gov. Bill Clinton signed legislation that would make Arkansas a participant in the Super Tuesday primaries of 1988. The bill changes the date of Arkansas’ political primaries in 1988 from the last Tuesday in May to the second Tuesday in March. Sen. Paul Benham, a Democrat and the bill’s sponsor, said 13 other Southern states plus Missouri have agreed to hold presidential primaries on the same day in an effort to get candidates to pay more attention to the South.
