Perez Sidelined for Remainder of Sockers’ Season

Midfielder Hugo Perez, the Sockers’ second-leading scorer, is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs because of sprained ligament in the right knee, team officials announced Monday.

Perez strained the ligaments Sunday when Los Angeles Lazer defender Gus Mokalis ran into him early in the fourth quarter of a Major Indoor Soccer League game. The Sockers lost to the Lazers, 6-5, in overtime in the San Diego Sports Arena. Perez has 26 goals and 16 assists (42 points) in 32 games.

Perez will not undergo knee surgery, doctors said.
