Fountain Valley : Acid Spill Is Contained Without Harm to Area

Share

About 300 gallons of diluted sulfuric acid was spilled Tuesday afternoon at a research company and leaked into an alley outside, but the caustic liquid caused no injuries or threat to residences, authorities said.

Fountain Valley Fire Department Capt. James Lee said the acid spilled as the result of an oversight of an employee at Composite Research Inc. in the 18000 block of Euclid Street.

Lee said the acid spill took place about 3:30 p.m. “It was inside the building, but it leaked out into an alley,” he said. “We’ve contained it in the alley, and a professional company is coming here to remove it.”

Lee said firefighters kept spectators and nearby street traffic from the area, thus preventing possible injuries. He said no employees of the firm or firefighters were hurt while containing the acid spill. He added that the liquid didn’t spread far enough to to pose a threat to the environment.
