Lynne Jewell of Studio City and Allison Jolly of Valencia, who hope to sail in the 1988 Olympics, won all six of their races during the weekend to capture the 470 class of the Alamitos Bay Regatta in Long Beach.

The two-day regatta was worth 50 points in the U.S. women’s sailing rankings. Jewell and Allison are in second place in the standings.

“We were pretty heavily favored, but we thought there would be some heavier competition,” Jewell said. “Most of our toughest competition just got new boats and they used Long Beach to work on them and get used to them.”

Jewell, 27, and Jolly, 30, leave for Miami at the end of the week to prepare for the 470 Midwinters March 19-22, an international regatta worth 150 points in the rankings.

“The competition in Florida will be much tougher than the regatta last weekend,” Jewell said. “That will be the real test. It won’t be a piece of cake like Long Beach was.”
