In a class-action suit, the nation’s largest airline was accused of cheating thousands of members of its frequent traveler program by raising the number of miles that must be flown to earn rewards. Chicago lawyer Spencer Marks, who filed the suit in Cook County Circuit Court, said that “instead of improved benefits, they actually lowered the value of the miles.” United spokesman Matt Gonring disputed this, saying that most of the changes lowered the mileage required to earn free trips.
