The former Democratic boss of the Bronx was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a corruption scandal, and the borough’s president resigned amid allegations he accepted a bribe from former executives of a military contractor. Borough President Stanley Simon, who has maintained his innocence, has been told by federal and Bronx prosecutors that he faced imminent indictment in the Wedtech Corp. corruption case. Two hours earlier, former Democratic boss Stanley Friedman was sentenced to prison for racketeering, conspiracy and mail fraud.
