Manila’s police commander says that Communist rebels have drawn up a hit list of civilian, military and police targets in a bid to destabilize President Corazon Aquino’s government through assassinations. Brig. Gen. Alfredo Lim said intelligence reports revealed the existence of the hit list, but he declined to say who was on it. He told reporters that security forces in the capital have been placed on alert after small hit squads of rebel commandos slipped into the capital and killed seven police officers in one week. In the latest incident, a suspected hit squad shot and killed a suburban police chief in the outskirts of Manila.
