Kansas State Wins Overtime Shootout With Georgia in West Regional, 82-79
In a game that included a three-point shootout between Kansas State’s Mitch Richmond and Georgia’s Willie Anderson, K-State prevailed in overtime, 82-79, Thursday in the West Regional.
Richmond, a 6-5 forward, won the three-point battle, making all five of his long shots and finished with 34 points. Anderson, a 6-7 point guard, made three of five three-pointers and had 35 points.
Kansas State broke out of a 76-76 tie in overtime on a layup by Norris Coleman and free throws by William Scott and Richmond.
With six seconds left and Georgia trailing by five points, the Bulldogs’ Dennis Williams made a three-point basket but Anderson had called time out a split-second before the shot.
“I wanted us to shoot it and then call time out,” Georgia Coach Hugh Durham said. “Willie just got it reversed.”
Kansas State conceded a layup to Georgia as time expired.
