L istings and commentary for Week 2 of the American Film Institute Film Festival of Los Angeles, which runs through March 26:

FRIDAY

“Saxophone Colossus” (U.S.A., 1986, 5:30 p.m.). Director Robert Mugge’s documentary of tenor great Sonny Rollins. The film includes a performance of Rollins’ Concerto for Tenor Saxophone and Orchestra.” Not available for preview.

“Joe Polowsky--An American Dreamer” (W. Germany, 1986, 9:30 p.m.). Top prize winner at the 1986 Leipzig Film Festival, this film--written and directed by Wolfgang Pfeiffer--documents the dreams and obsessions of a Chicago cabbie who fought in World War II and was one of the American soldiers to encounter the Red Army at the Elbe. Not available for preview.
